Massachusetts Bay Colony is proclaimed to be in a state of rebellion.

June 12, 1775

In a letter written for him by Gen. John Burgoyne, Gen. Gage writes, “Whereas the infatuated multitudes have long suffered themselves to be conducted by certain well-known incendiaries and traitors: [into rebellion] it only remains for those who are invested with the supreme rule . . . to prove they do not bear the sword in vain.”
